Participation in Academic Studies
From time to time PFLAG Canada receives requests from academic researchers conducting studies concerning some or all members of LGBTT2IQQ community. Participation in such studies may range from filling out a survey on-line to being interviewed in person or by phone.
The list below is intended to provide community members with the opportunity to participate in such studies if they choose. PFLAG Canada is not involved in any of these studies other than by listing them on our site. We do not endorse any particular study, nor are we being remunerated for listing the studies.
If you are a researcher and have a study you would like listed on this page, please send your information - including an expiry date for the listing - to the Executive Director.
Anti-LGBT Focus Groups - posted 08-Dec-2008, expires 01-May-2009.
Hello all: My name is Jim Bell and I am conducting research on anti-LGBT hate crimes and their impact on the broader LGBT community as a whole.
I am looking for LGBT people in the Durham Region who are interested in participating in a Focus Group (group discussions) on how anti-LGBT hate crimes impact the entire LGBT community. The study has been approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
The Focus Groups will be about 1 to 1.5 hours, and will be held in various locations throughout the Durham Region. As a token of our appreciation, participants will be given a $10 gift certificate for Chapters bookstore. The Focus Groups will run until May 1, 2009.
If you have any questions or would like to participate in this study, please contact me at hatecrimediscussion@gmail.com.
Thank you, Jim Bell.
Lesbian Motherhood Study - posted 27-Nov-2008, expires 28-Feb-2009.
Hello, my name is Crystal Young and I am working towards a Bachelor with Honors degree in Psychology at Laurentian University. I am currently trying to recruit lesbian mothers (in United States and Canada) to participate in an online survey.
The purpose of this study is to explore parental stress, stigmatization and lack of social support that may exist in areas that have different legal definitions of marriage and how this relates specifically to female same-sex couples with children.
This link for the survey is http://142.51.14.1/Laurentian/Home/Departments/Psychology/Faculty%20List/Jo%C3%ABl%20Dickinson/Lesbian%20Motherhood%20Survey.htm?Laurentian_Lang=en-CA.
The questionnaire will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Participants are directed to input a user ID and a password. No unique ID and password are given. The participants can choose their own. In addition it would be helpful to our research if you could relay the message directing lesbian mothers to the questionnaire. The more responses we have, the more accurate the outcome.
